A blue bay seen through the trees of a tropical forest

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico

A green hillside, ten minutes from the malecón

Moyocoyani is a small community of sustainable cabins and lots in Puerto Vallarta, made for living quietly among the trees, with the bay in view.

Cabins built with natural materials, a kitchen garden, a yoga room and trails to walk through the greenery. What is built respects the hillside that holds it.

The kitchen garden under cover, so the kitchen has something to draw on all year and not only in season.

The region's agave: the starting point of the tequila, the raicilla and the mezcal the project plans to distil on site.

Saunas and a temazcal, on the side of the hill that faces the forest.

The eco pool returns its water to the land by running it through wetlands.

The bank of the stream, with hammocks and a place to lie in the sun, is common ground.

Farm and production

What the hillside will give

The project is not only cabins. It is a kitchen garden, a greenhouse and a farm, and the trades that come with them: preserving, cheese, charcuterie, fermentation and distilling. None of it is built yet; what follows is the plan, and it is published here as it goes up.

The project's declared goal: food sovereignty for the estate by 2030.

  • Kitchen garden and greenhouse

The estate's vegetables, in the open and under cover, so the kitchen is supplied all year and not only in season.

  • Poultry

Hens and quail, for eggs and for the kitchen here.

  • Livestock

Pigs, cattle, goats and sheep, grazing the hillside.

  • Aquaculture

Shrimp and fish, raised with water from the property itself.

  • Dairy

Cheeses, kefir and butters, made with milk from the farm.

  • Charcuterie and preserves

Cured meats, jams, preserves and essential oils, from what the garden and the farm give.

  • Ferments

The ferments the cheese, the bread and the drink all start from.

  • Small-scale distillery

Tequila, raicilla, mezcal, rum, gin and whisky, from a small still inside the estate.

  • Workshops

On preserving and on processing, for anyone living here who wants to learn the trade.

  • Restaurant and food rooms

A Mexican fusion restaurant, a small food-processing room and a packing room.

Amenities

Amenities

The estate is built around what gets done every day: growing, moving, walking and resting. The first three are settled; the rest are planned and arrive as the work goes up.

A kitchen garden, a yoga room and trails through the trees. The list grows as the plan takes shape.

Kitchen garden

A garden for vegetables and local herbs, looked after together by the people who live here.

Yoga room

An open, shaded space for practising yoga early in the day or late afternoon.

A wooden platform among the trees of a forest

Trails

Paths for walking through the hillside greenery, laid out to follow the ground.

A dirt trail through tropical forest

Eco pool

With treatment for waste and grey water, and wetlands that return it to the land. It is planned, not built.

A wetland where the water reflects the trees and the sky

Temazcal and saunas

A temazcal drawn for twenty-five people, and saunas for those who live here.

Court and gym

A padel or five-a-side court, and a small gym.

Greenhouse and farm

The kitchen garden grows into a greenhouse and a farm. What is made there has its own section above.
